Library classes


General information

We offer library classes for three skill levels. Our trainings at beginners' and proficient level are often integrated into the classes from Faculty VII departmenrs. We also offer independent classes for students and employees of the departments of Faculty VII.

The classes have a duration of 90 minutes.

After participating in a class all participants get a stamp in their personal Information Expert Passport. Upon request we also provide a certificate of attendance.

Compact courses

For compact courses we offer our four training courses within one week. 

  • Search literature efficiently: 09.03.2020
  • Search in literature databases: 10.03.2020
  • Evaluate search results: 11.03.2020
  • Managing literature with Citavi: 12.03.2020

The training courses take place in the training room of the university library (room BIB 012).

Please note that the course only takes place with a minimum of 10 registrations.

Efficient literature research (beginner level)

Target audience: Freshmen

Class: In this class you will acquire through practical exercises basic knowledge of how to efficiently use our library resources.

Dates: Monday, November 19th at the library, 12:15-13:45 o'clock, (Write e-mail to infokompetenz@wm.tu-berlin.de).

Research in literature databases (proficient level)

Target audience: Bachelor students, Master's students, PhD students

Class: This class will give you an insight into how to find articles on an academic topic using bibliographical databases.

Date: Monday, November 26th at the library at 12:15 to 13:45 o'clock. Please write an e-mail to infokompetenz@wm.tu-berlin.de.

Evaluating search results (proficient level)

Target audience: Bachelor students, Master's students, PhD students

Course: This class will teach you which features and indicators can help you evaluate the quality of scientific publications.

Managing literature with Citavi (proficient level)

Target audience: Bachelor students, Master's students, PhD students

Classes: In this class we will show you how to automate the writing process using literature processing and management tools. 

Researching facts and figures (proficient level)

Target groups: Bachelor students, Master's students, PhD students

Class: Live-demo and training of relevant fact databases like Statista.

Comply with copyright laws in publications

Target audience: PhD students

Workshop: in cooperation with the Center for Intellectual Property of the TU Berlin

Content: What clauses in an author's contract have which consequences? What does the second publication right mean for authors? What usage rights and remuneration claims exist for authors regarding their publications?

Meet the editors - Publishing articles successfully (expert level)

Target audience: PhD students

Workshop: in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Busse, Prof. Dr. Kratzer und Prof. Dr. Kübler

Content: How do I get my article accepted by a highly ranked journal? How to cope with criticism of reviewers? Get to know key success factors for your publications with this workshop. A recording from the last workshop is available here or on our YouTube channel.
