Borrowing, Renewing, Reserving & Returning Specialist Media

Library card

Specialist media can only be borrowed with a valid library card issued by the University Library of Technische Universität Berlin on Fasanenstrasse.

Student ID is automatically activated as a library card.

Academic staff and other members of Technische Universität Berlin can have their staff ID activated as a library card in the University Library.

Library account

Your library account gives you an overview of the items you have borrowed; you can also renew them or reserve items. In addition, searches in the Knowledge Portal Primo can be saved here. The login for the library account is located at the top right of the Knowledge Portal Primo.

Loan

To borrow specialist media, you need the call number of a book or journal. You can find this using the Knowledge Portal Primo.

You can use the map to find out where the book or journal is located in our library, since our three open stacks-areas are displayed.

Once you've found the book, you can borrow it using a self-issue machine.

Ordering and placing a scanning request

Ordering specialist media for loan

  • Users with a valid library card reserve specialist media for collection from the Economics & Management Library
  • To do this, log into the Knowledge Portal Primo and select "Order" for the chosen book from the Economics & Management Library
  • After the library team has prepared your order, you will receive an email.
  • Ordered books can be picked up from the shelf next to the self-issue machine (map)
  • Important: The book still has to be borrowed using the self-issue machine

Ordering scans

Members of TU Berlin may request free scans of book chapters and journal articles which are otherwise only available in the physical holdings of the libraries of Technische Universität Berlin.

Renewing

  • Items can be renewed up to a total loan period of 180 days (up to 360 days for professors and research associates at Technische Universität Berlin), provided the book has not been reserved
  • Loan periods can be renewed in the Knowledge Portal Primo under My Account
  • Or by email at: ausleihe[at]wm.tu-berlin.de

Reserving

Using your library account, you can reserve items that are currently loaned to someone else. You will receive an email notification when the book has been returned and is available for loan.

Returns

During the opening hours of the Economics & Management Library

  • Returning items using the library self-issue machine
  • Information Desk

Outside the opening hours of the Economics & Management Library

  • Return box in the foyer of the main building of Technische Universität Berlin (items will be promptly recorded as returned and you will receive a receipt by email, with the date of receipt recorded as the return date)
